First time we've ever seen Mallards here. This couple is apparently young and are making poor choices for nesting places. So far, in 6 wks she has built 3 nests, 1st on ground in bushes. Eggs eaten in 24hrs. 2nd nest was built in heavy salt marsh. Storm flooded the nest. 3rd nest was on higher ground in marsh. Eggs eaten 2-3 days later. Appears they are house shopping again. Do you think this will work in this environment? I'd have to put up on land due to 8-9ft tide. When these ducks showed up it was obvious they were at least partially domesticated and we've never seen them fly more that a few feet.
